how is the Chocolonely Foundation different from Tony’s Chocolonely?
We (Tony’s) are fighting exploitation in cocoa – poverty, child labor and deforestation – by changing the industry from within. How? By producing and selling chunking good chocolate made from cocoa sourced according to Tony’s Sourcing Principles. The Chocolonely Foundation focuses on other stuff, like providing funding or social loans for things like school fees. Money earned in the cocoa season is being paid during the season, so it’s possible that farmers do not have enough money to send their kids to school in September. The Foundation can help with this, so families have money available when school fees fall due.
how’s the Foundation funded?
To support the foundation, Tony’s Chocolonely donates 1% of its net revenue to the Chocolonely Foundation every year. The Foundation uses these funds to support a broad range of projects + initiatives that address these impact areas:
- strong, resilient + inclusive cocoa communities
- poverty and prosperity
- enabling environments in cocoa-growing communities
